Welcome to: If Male Superhero Costumes were Designed Like Female Superhero Costumes!
Aaaaa I dunno. I got tired of guys having no idea why girls find female superhero’s costumes kinda sexist, so I, um, made this?
My main goals were: 1) Make it so the first thing you think of when you look at them is sex, whether you want to or not. 2) make it so that any male human who looks at this feels really uncomfortable. 3) make it funny, because, well, it’s kinda hilarious really.
Not trying to start a war here, just wanted to poke a bit of fun.
So, here you go menfolk, welcome to being a girl who likes comics.
So, the Zombies, Run! App released yesterday and I tried it out. I’m impressed, it’s a solid app and I didn’t run into any trouble first day out. The first mission is about a half hour long, I’m not sure how the others fair but that seems a reasonable time period for a beginning jogger, so I wouldn’t be surprised if most of them stick to that time frame.
When you first start up the app, it gives you a simple tutorial and you pick a playlist in the mission field to listen to. I haven’t tried it with podcasts, but anything you listen to pretty much has to be in a playlist or a genius selection. You get an mission introduction, basically the comm center telling you what your ‘objective’ is, and then you listen to a song or two before they come back in with an update between songs. As you run, jog, walk, or whatever, you pick up items automatically along the way. The items are all color coded and go to a specific area in the compound, so the med kits will go to the hospital and an ax will go to the armory, and so on. As you upgrade the different areas of the compound, you boost the population of the compound, starting at 60 people and building from there. You can also be “chased” by zombies if you activate the GPS. I didn’t have that happen in the first mission, but I’m definitely curious about it.
I was impressed with the voice actors, they emoted well and the first mission had an interesting lead in to the story. The game promises to have some intrigue and discovery about the mystery of why the zombie apocalypse happened, so hopefully it delivers on that, but so far I’m quite pleased with it.
The initial cost is 7.99, I’m not sure how many missions that includes at this time but I see 13. I assume all 13 missions are included in the cost of the season, and there are plans for more seasons down the road. It’s now available on iPhone, Android should be available sometime in the next couple of months, and according to the Rep I talked to on twitter, they’re also in talks with Microsoft for the Windows Phone platform, which pleases probably nobody but me, but hey, I care. The cost may seem a bit steep, but considering the full cast of voiced characters and the work put into it, I think it’s worth it. It’s about the cost of a burger and fries, if you want to think about it like that. I did, and then I got hungry, so maybe you don’t want to think about it like that. Your choice.
UPDATE: The Rep tweeting from @ZombiesRunGame informs me that we’ll be getting another 17 missions for free in the coming updates. Neat!

Reading Between the Lines (Gijs Van Vaerenbergh)
Never have I seen 30 tons of steel appear so delicate. If we end up getting married in Belgium, this will be the spot.
Just FYI.

Lost in Translation (Drama, 2003): The other night was time for my once yearly retrospective viewing of this film…I’ve been watching it once a year since it came out, and the last scene gets me every time. It’s not a traditional film, not every scene is packed with either action or dialogue, there are many quiet moments when you’re just looking at the visuals and listening to the music. But it works for me on all three levels, I find it ascetically appealing, the music tugs at me, and the story is wonderful.
There’s something magical about a story involving two people who feel so isolated, both in their personal lives and because they’re lost in a very different part of the world, finding that one other person who seems to understand them. That’s what keeps me coming back each year.
